The Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship is designed for learners working within adult nursing settings who provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals across a range of healthcare environments. Senior Healthcare Support Workers play a vital role in supporting health and wellbeing, monitoring patient conditions, undertaking clinical procedures, promoting independence and contributing to safe and effective care delivery.

Senior Healthcare Support Workers are often at the centre of day-to-day care delivery. They support patients with personal care, clinical observations, health monitoring, wound care, nutrition and rehabilitation whilst working alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals. Their role is essential in ensuring high-quality care and positive patient experiences. 

The Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship helps learners develop the practical skills, professional behaviours and clinical knowledge needed to work confidently within adult nursing services. By investing in apprenticeship training, employers can strengthen workforce capacity, improve patient outcomes and support future nursing pathways.

The programme combines remote learning sessions, specialist Adult Nursing pathway teaching, workplace competency development, coaching and portfolio building through the OneFile e-portfolio system. Learners apply their learning directly in practice whilst building evidence against the apprenticeship standard.

Assessment activities may include workplace observations, reflective accounts, professional discussions, workbooks, witness testimonies, case studies, learning journals and service improvement projects. Regular progress reviews and coaching sessions help learners remain on track and prepare for End-Point Assessment.

Although employers may provide dedicated study time, learners should expect to undertake some independent learning and portfolio work outside scheduled teaching sessions.
