Occupation Profile

A Healthcare Cleaning Operative works in healthcare environments that require specific attention to safety and sanitation, such as public and private sector environments including NHS hospitals, private hospitals, care homes (nursing
and residential), GP practices, community health centres, educational establishments, leisure facilities and pharmaceutical retail outlets.

As a Healthcare Cleaning Operative, you will support front line colleagues in the provision of a hygienically clean healthcare environment at a standard that supports and promotes the recovery of patients and prevents the spread of infection
and cross contamination. You will be responsible for routine and non-routine cleaning, operations including deep cleaning and rapid response cleaning to a hygienic standard of cleanliness set by organisational and policy guidelines.

This apprenticeship is not suitable for those in cleaning operative roles within hotels, restaurants, offices, school areas unrelated to healthcare settings, any healthcare setting where the operative is not able to achieve full breadth of knowledge, skills and behaviours required to successfully complete this apprenticeship.

  • Completion of 20% off the job training
  • Achievement of the Skills, Knowledge & Behaviours set within the standard and to be consistently working at or above the level required of a Healthcare Cleaning Operative
  • Collation of a portfolio of evidence

Programme Details

Your apprenticeship programme will be delivered as blended learning. Blended learning is a combination of both online and face to face delivery. You will need to have good internet access and a suitable device such as a smart phone, laptop, or tablet to work on. Microsoft Teams is used for coaching sessions and ZOOM is currently used for taught sessions. You will need to check with your employer that access to ZOOM and Microsoft Teams is available and permitted If using a work device to complete your training.

You will be allocated a Skills & Development Coach who will support and guide you for the duration of your apprenticeship.

During the apprenticeship you will participate in training, development and on-going review
activities. These typically include:

  • Induction which is specific to your workplace
  • Study days and training courses
  • Mentoring/buddy support
  • Completion of a portfolio through which you will gather evidence of your progress
  • Structured one to one reviews of your progress with your employer and/or Dynamic Training.

Assessment Gateway

At gateway your employer will make the decision that you are ready for end point assessment having achieved
all the mandatory requirements and qualifications set within the standard.

End Point Assessment

Following successful completion of the Gateway, you will proceed to end point assessment (EPA). The EPA is
undertaken by an independent assessment organisation chosen by your employer within 3 months of the gateway.

The End Point Assessment comprises of a knowledge test, observation and questioning and a structured interview underpinned the the portfolio of evidence you have collated. 

An overall grade of fail, pass or distinction will be determined by the end point assessor
