As a business administrator working in a medical environment, either for the NHS or a private healthcare provider, you will support medical practitioners and patients whilst developing your knowledge of medical terminology and implementing, maintaining and improving
administrative services.

Your role may involve working independently or as part of a team and will involve developing, implementing, maintaining and improving
administrative services.

The responsibilities of your role are to support and engage with different parts of the organisation and interact with internal or external customers. With a focus on adding value, as a business administrator, you will contribute to theefficiency of an organisation, working across
teams and resolving issues as requested.

You will be expected to deliver your responsibilities efficiently and with integrity, showing a positive attitude. Your role involves demonstrating strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and adopting a proactive approach to developing skills.

Programme delivery

You will be allocated a Skills & Development Coach who will support and guide you for the duration of your apprenticeship. The apprenticeship programme will be delivered as blended learning. Blended learning is a combination of both online and face to face delivery. You will need to have good internet access and a suitable device such as a smart phone, laptop, or tablet to work on. Microsoft Teams is used for coaching sessions and ZOOM is currently used for taught sessions. Please discuss accessibility with your employer as these applications are required, in order for you to complete your training.

It usually takes 15 months to complete this
apprenticeship during which you will participate in
training, development and on-going review activities.

Programme qualifications and requirements

You will have or need to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths prior to end point assessment.  This apprenticeship will cover the core skills, knowledge and behaviours required of a business administrator in a medical administration setting.

Medical Terminology

As part of your apprenticeship, you will develop a basic knowledge of medical terminology and how to
accurately construct, identify and use it.

You will learn:
a. The structure and meaning of medical word parts
b. The meaning of medical terminology relating to
the human body
c. The meaning of medical terminology relating to the medical specialities
d. The meaning of pharmaceutical abbreviations
To receive accreditation for medical terminology, you will need to pass a medical terminology exam.

Assessment Gateway

Your employer will make the decision as to when you are ready to undertake the end point

Before going forward for end point assessment
you must:
• Have or achieved Level 2 maths and English
• Completed a portfolio of evidence
• Produced a project presentation

End Point Assessment

Following successful completion of the Gateway, you will proceed to end point assessment (EPA). The EPA is provided by an independent assessment organisation, chosen by your employer.

The EPA comprises of three elements, all of which need to be achieved in order to pass the apprenticeship. The Independent Assessor will
determine the final grading for the apprenticeship

Knowledge Test:
The apprentice undertakes a multi-choice test to last a maximum of 60 minutes and include 50 equally weighted multi-choice questions The test is to be completed online and is subject to invigilation.

Portfolio-based Interview:
The interview is for 30-45 minutes and scored out of 100. The interview assesses understanding and learning shown in the Portfolio; the Portfolio is not directly assessed.

Project Presentation:
The apprentice delivers a presentation to the EPAO on a project they have completed or a process they have improved. The presentation
lasts 10-15 minutes, with a further 10-15 minutes for a Q&A session. The presentation is out of 100. The presentation is expected to be produced using Microsoft Office PowerPoint or Prezi, demonstrating a minimum level of IT skills.
