A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team.  As a team leader/supervisor you will provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role. Roles/Occupations may include: Supervisor, Team Leader, Project Officer, Shift Supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift Manager.

Professional recognition

On completion, you may choose to register as an Associate member with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership & Management, to support your professional career development and progression.

Progression

On completion of the team leader/supervisor apprenticeship, you will be encouraged to undertake ongoing CPD. Further development/progression routes will be available, which include higher level qualifications and professional development.

Entry requirements

The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade C or higher.

Programme details

You will be allocated a Skills & Development Coach who will support and guide you for the duration of your apprenticeship. The apprenticeship programme will be delivered as blended learning. Blended learning is a combination of both online and face to face delivery. You will need to have good internet access and a suitable device such as a smart phone, laptop, or tablet to work on. Microsoft Teams is used for coaching sessions and ZOOM is currently used for taught sessions. Please ensure that you have access to ZOOM and Microsoft Teams and are permitted to use these applications within your workplace in order to complete your training.

The on-programme assessment will be agreed with your employer and Dynamic Training. 

  • Underpinning knowledge and training with regular assessments to an equivalent standard, quality and scope which can be evidenced.
  • Regular performance reviews between yourself and your line manager
  • Development of a portfolio of evidence
  • Feedback from your line manager, peers and direct reports (including 180/360 degree feedback or equivalent)

*It is recommended that where possible the evidence collected makes use of video or audio technologies

During your apprenticeship the following knowledge and skills will be covered:

  • Interpersonal excellence – managing people and developing relationships
  • Organisational performance – delivering results
  • Personal effectiveness – managing self

You will also be required to develop and exhibit behaviours in the workplace such as taking responsibility, inclusion and agility and professionalism

Assessment gateway

Your employer will make the decision as to when you are ready to undertake the end point assessment. In order to be put forward for end point assessment, you will need to have achieved the mandatory requirements of your apprenticeship and to be working at or above the level required of a team leader/supervisor.

End point assessment

The end point assessment is undertaken by an independent assessment organisation chosen by your employer and comprises of four components; knowledge test, structured competency based interview, submission of portfolio, professional discussion of cpd activity.
